Black Bean Burgers


Ingredients (use vegan versions):

  • 3 16 oz. cans of black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked regular oats
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped finely
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • vegetable oil


Coarsely mash beans with a fork.
Combine beans and next 7 ingredients.
Shape into 8 patties. Stir together
flour and cornmeal and dredge patties in
mixture. Cook patties in hot oil in a
large non-stick skillet over medium-high
heat until each side is lightly browned.
Drain on paper towels.

Serves: 8

Preparation time: 15 minutes
