Philly’s Bread Recipe

Ingredients (use vegan versions):


  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoon soft vegetable shortening
  • 1 package dried yeast
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon vegan sugar

Directions:



Dissolve yeast in water. Add salt,
vegan sugar, and 1/2 the flour. Beat 2
minutes on medium speed, or 300
strokes. Add remaining flour.


Cover and let rise double (30 minutes).
Stir down by beating (25 strokes). Put
into greased pan and let rise (40 minutes).


Bake 40-50 minutes between 325-375
degrees, until brown and cooked
through. (Temp. depends on
altitude/conditions, use best
judgment) When you tap the top it
should sound hollow.


Hints:
1. To rise, put in oven temp as low as
it will go.
2. When adding second portion of
flour, may not take it all, only add
until not gooey/sticky
This recipe doubles.


Serves: 1 loaf
