Puffed Wheat Candy (“Ow! My teeth!”) Recipe
Ingredients (use vegan versions):
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil non-hydrogenated vegan margarine
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1 cup vegan brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 tablespoon powdered cinnamon
- 9 cups puffed wheat cereal
Directions:
Measure puffed wheat, raisins and seeds into a large mixing
bowl. Thoroughly grease up a 9″ x 12″ pan. Melt margarine over med, low heat.
Add molasses, syrup and vegan sugar. cook and stir gently until it bubbles and sugar is
dissolved. Remove from heat; stir in cinnamon. Pour over puffed wheat, raisins and
seeds. Mix well and press firmly into the pan. (It helps if you oil your
hands a bit). Chill and cut into squares.
Option: Omit cinnamon and molasses. Increase corn syrup to 1/2 cup and add
1/4 cup cocoa + 1 tsp. vanilla to syrup mixture to make chocolaty candy.
